The Host

Okay, I absolutely inhaled this book and risked divorce by remaining in bed until 2:00 in the afternoon reading it. Seriously, I couldn't put it down. It is not about anything that would seem in the least bit entertaining -- it's about aliens that take over our world and basically snatch human bodies and put themselves inside, eradicating the human race one individual at a time. But in the end, it's just a love story. The thing that keeps me going with Stephenie's books are the unexpected. Since I never read vampire books, I had no idea where that story was going, and since Science Fiction has never been my thing, I had no idea where this one was going either. But I LOVED IT! I would highly recommend it (and I would also suggest going away by yourself and hiding for three days or so because else you'll just get yelled at for doing nothing else during that time!)

The Double Bind

This book is very good at pulling you in and keeping you wanting to read. Not giving away anything that isn't on the back cover you immediatly care for the main character, Laurel, becuase of an attack on her by two men. The rest of the book keeps you interested as you see this girl who has been through this horrific experience pull herself together (to a point in my eyes) and works for a homeless shelter providing apts and places to sleep for misfortunate souls. Laurel gets invovled in a project consisting of old photographs (a plus for me as I love photography) taken by one of the shelters tenants, and a look into the Gatsby era (also fun as that was one of the first books I remember reading and dissecting in an english class and actually enjoying). Finally the book ends with a huge twist that I came nowhere close to expecting. This was the only thing that through me off as it is kind of disturbing and very sad. I was expecting a happy ending and ended up feeling unsettled. Can't get it out of my mind though which is a goal of a book. I would reccommend this book to anyone, but I will say it's not an extremely happy book and does not leave you with warm fuzzy feelings. Still, it's a very good read and enjoyable all the way through till the end.

Great idea!

I sometimes pick up a book and start reading it, and think to myself, "have I already read this?"  Yes, it is a bit scary that I am not completely sure, but it sure would be nice to have a place where I could check and see!

I am not currently reading a book, so I am going to have to remedy that ...

...off to read!

Starting it off

My mother and I thought it would be fun to have a blog where there are a number of posters who can post about the books they have read. I find that I am sometimes going through books so fast that I am not even processing what they were about, so I tried doing a book review on my personal blog and from there this idea came about!
