I more read this book then enjoyed it!  I didn't like the way the story was told, even though the content matter SHOULD have been fantastic.  But it just never felt as though there was a definitive reason for the main character to choose the sex he chose, and for the truth of the matter, I didn't really care!  I tried.  I kept reading.
